The K.I.S.S. Approach

I read a blog post about how Tori Spelling recently lost weight simply by eating a balanced diet. This kind of ticked me off. Not because she is successful using this method, but because a common sense approach like this is news.

I have written about the “evil” diets before, you know the ones that tell you to eat no carbs, or no fat, or all protein and fat… or better yet, only eat this food that we happen to sell. I am not a fan of these, largely because as soon as they are over, the weight comes back on.

The best approach to diet and exercise is the simple one. I love the K.I.S.S. theory of Keep It Super Simple. The bottom line is to always maintain balance. The very second that we lose our balance, we go crashing face first to the floor.

When it is time to strap on the feed bag, again, keep it simple and balanced. I am an advocate of the 40/40/20 ratio of 40% protein, 40% carbohydrate and 20% fat intake. Of course those should be lean proteins, clean carbohydrates and unsaturated fats. Meals should roughly contain these ratios. Some athletes utilize nutrient timing; however for most of us, this simple approach is easy and works great. Get lots of fruits and veggies, with a wide variety of colors.

Keep exercise simple and constantly changing. Balance whole body resistance training and cardio.

By following a simple and balanced approach to health and fitness, you will be more likely to integrate it as a lifestyle choice. When this happens, positive results will be realized, and with greater success.

  1. right with you mate, love the kiss principle. Use it alot with my clients. Weight loss does not have to be hard!

It is funny how people like to make things complicated, especially the magazines and companies with something to sell……but the KISS approach is not only the best way, it is the only long term substainable way, once you get results surely you want to keep them and build on them, better to teach a new lifestyle rather than the quick fix that is promoted by many organisations wth some ulterior motive.

It would be great to start a KISS campaign……you can have my support.

Oh, I like the idea of some kind of KISS program. I will have to think about this.
